Manhattan Beach. Police will conduct an 8-hour DUI saturation patrol starting at 7 tonight.

Los Angeles. Police will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint from 8 tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday on Crenshaw Boulevard at 57th Street.

Studio City. Police will conduct a checkpoint from 8 tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday on Ventura Boulevard at Big Oak Drive.

Motorcycle safety targeted in Hawthorne

Hawthorne. Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach police officers will conduct a specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation on June 30.

Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where crashes occur. Officers will crack down on traffic violations made by motorcyclists as well as other vehicle drivers that can lead to motorcycle collisions, injuries and fatalities. Motorcycle fatalities have increased 175 percent in California in the last decade, from 204 killed in 1998 to 560 killed in 2008. Hawthorne has had two fatal motorcycle accidents and 10 motorcycle injury accidents since 2008.
