He was later released from the hospital.
About 2 a.m. Saturday, Officer Carlos Alvarez was headed west on his police motorcycle on Southwest 35th Terrace when a vehicle with its headlights off was heading east on 35th Terrace toward 102nd Avenue.
The vehicle struck the front of the officer's motorcycle and fled the scene, heading south on Southwest 102nd Avenue.
Alvarez was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center for treatment.
Investigators ask anyone with information on the hit-and-run vehicle or driver to please call Detective Wanda Milian at Miami-Dade Police Traffic Homicide. Her number is 305-471-2425.
