Woman Sentenced After Hitting And Killing Grayling Motorcyclist

OFF THE WIRE

A person responsible for killing a motorcyclist last year was sentenced on Tuesday.
The sentencing stems back to a crash in September when a woman crashed into a motorcycle on M-72 near Evergreen Drive in Grayling.
Sandra Lakanen was sentenced to 30 days in jail for hitting and killing Kelly Curtis.
Lakanen must also pay more than $1,000 in fines and serve six months probation while participating in victim panels.
Curtis was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In CA, the courts start with the argument it was the bikers fault. The argument is, had they been in a cage, they (the biker) would most likely be alive today. Since they chose to ride an inherently dangerous motorcycle...the fault is the bikers. Sitting on a parked motorcycle and you get injured by a drunk driver...your fault. It takes a good highly rated attorney to argue otherwise...and generally that is not an accident only attorney. I followed a case in CA where a driver hit 2 kids on a motorcycle, head on killing them both. Charged with a DUI (drugs) and vehicle manslaughter, the judge dismissed the DUI and charged the driver with a right of way violation...$100 fine.

ABATE Region 21That is so fucked up! And the article is even more fucked up! The last comment about the helmet was about as close as they could come to saying it was the victims fault as they could get without outright saying it. Like they took the time to ascertain if the helmet would or could have made a difference
