CA - LEO equipment To Be Tested

OFF THE WIRE
Lidar speed sensing equipment is, essentially, a handheld computer that tests itself (before each shift and after each citation) to be considered accurate in a court of law.
Two of the worst enemies of computers are
1. Virus, and
2. Heat.
Most manufacturers of Lidar units advise against storing and using the unit at 140 degrees F or higher.
Oddly enough most traffic cops on motorcycles have a holster they put the unit in when riding, or off the bike - parked.
It is mounted in front of their knee, about 2 inches from the bike's motor.
So, the heat degrades the computer's ability to self-check its accuracy in sensing speed. .
FYI.
