AUSTRALIA - CHIEF MINISTER TO CONSIDER NEW BIKIE BANS

OFF THE WIRE
The ACT Chief Minister says she will consider if there is a need to ban bikies from owning tattoo parlours after a drive-by shooting in Canberra's north.
The owner, who does not want to be named, was payback for not being affiliated with an outlaw motorcycle gang.
He has called on the ACT Government to introduce similar laws to those in New South Wales, where members of bikie gangs are banned from running tattoo parlours.
Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says she will wait for the outcome of the police investigation before considering any legislative changes.
"If there is an identified need we do need to respond," she said.
"I think if the owner has raised it we need to look into it."
Ms Gallagher says she has looked at some of the responses to bikie-related violence in other states.
"The issue for us is we haven't had the specific issues that those jurisdictions have," she said,
"We haven't felt the need to legislate for a problem that doesn't exist in the ACT."
Ms Gallagher says the Police Minister Simon Corbell is seeking advice.
