DUI Enforcement Starts Saturday in Long Beach

 There appeared to be no formal checkpoints, but rather a "deployment" of police officers in high frequency DUI locations.

Avoid the 100 DUI task force context Photos (1) Photos Credit Avoid the 100 DUI task force there were no DUI checkpoints announced by the Long Beach Police Department, a DUI Enforcement Team was announced to start at 8 p.m. Saturday and last until 4 a.m. Sunday in high frequency crash locations in the city.
The team "will be deploying this weekend to stop and arrest alcohol and drug-impaired drivers in the Department’s ongoing traffic safety campaign," a press statement read. Although no locations or even quadrants of the city were identified, the announcement stated officers would be in "areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests.
"Driving under the influence can impact the economy in addition to the pain and suffering of those immediately affected. Conservatively, a fatality has a $1.4 million impact, an injury $70,000, and a crash that only damages property averages nearly $9,000," the department release states.
