DAV: December 2012 Newsletter

Even the most carefully chosen gift can’t compete with the wonderful feeling of giving to others during the holidays. And few deserve our generosity more than injured veterans and their families.

Let us take the guesswork out of what to give these heroes as you deliver just what America’s veterans need most through your support of Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Deliver Comfort and Care This Holiday Season
December ensl 1.jpg   The holidays can be the loneliest time of year for sick, injured and elderly veterans. Yet nothing lifts a hero’s heart quite like the personal devotion you’ll show when you volunteer to help veterans during the holidays.

Veterans Forgotten in Backlog of Claims
december ensl 2.jpg   At a time when they deserve to feel the warm embrace of the holidays, nearly 900,000 veterans remain without assistance, lost in the VA’s massive claims backlog. It’s one of many reasons the DAV is rallying support for heroes and families who will face many hardships during the holidays.

DAV Rights Wrong, Helps Marine and Family
december ensl 3.jpg   With shrapnel burning his insides, Sergeant Ryan Shane lay still beside the Marine he tried to rescue. Years later, his injuries still cause him pain, yet today there’s a crucial difference: Ryan now receives the full benefits he earned. “No one does things like DAV. You know that DAV really cares about you,” says Ryan.

DAV Honors World War II Veteran
december ensl 4.jpg   On 360 days a year, a 91-year-old World War II veteran holds a sunset flag ceremony in memory of his Navy shipmates, who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Hand in hand with community leaders, DAV Chapter 44 saluted this hero’s deep patriotic commitment during the 12th annual flag retirement ceremony in Cape May, New Jersey.

POW Gives Back to Fellow Veterans Through DAV
december ensl 5.jpg   World War II veteran Lloyd Kilmer doesn’t linger on the suffering he endured in a German POW camp – a story Tom Brokaw captured in his book, The Greatest Generation. But he’s happy to share why he named DAV in his trust: “This was my way of showing appreciation to other veterans – it’s that simple.”

Share the Season's Joy With Heroes and Families!
december ensl 7.jpg   While families rejoice to have their heroes safely home during the holidays, the burdens of war can easily crush the season’s joy.

Carry hope and comfort to heroes in anguish with your much- needed holiday gift of $25 … $50 … $100 or more now.
