BRISBANE AAP June 21 - The public and the media have been excluded from a court hearing to determine whether a Queensland bikie gang can be declared a criminal organisation.
Two minutes into the hearing in Brisbane's Supreme Court on Thursday, Justice David Boddice declared the court closed under Section 108 of the Criminal Organisation Act 2009.
Police are seeking to impose new anti-association laws on the Gold Coast's Finks motorcycle club - declaring them a criminal organisation - because of its history of serious criminal activity, including murder.
The application lodged in the Supreme Court in Brisbane earlier this month is the first under the Criminal Organisation Act 2009.
The act allows the dismantling of organisations involved in serious criminal activity.
If the court bid is successful, Finks members could be banned from owning weapons or meeting at their clubhouse.
