AUSTRALIA - Bikie link probed after cannabis find

OFF THE WIRE
Police are investigating links between a bikie gxxg and a $6 million drug bust on the outskirts of Geelong.
Officers from the Echo Taskforce executed a warrant at Forest Road, Lara at 7am this morning and during a search of the home and three large sheds uncovered 1500 marijuana plants.
They have an estimated street value of $6 million. There were abut 1500 plants discovered, at different stages of maturity.
Detective Acting Inspector David De Francesco said the sheds and home had been packed with plants.
‘‘It it one of the most sophisticated set-ups that I have ever seen, they were running two very large generators worth about $60,000 alone,’’ the detective said.
The home is situated on a semi-rural property.
A 33-year-old man, who was living at the house is being questioned by police.
The acting inspector said inquiries were continuing.
‘‘But we have got intelligence that the set up is linked to an outlaw motorcycle gxxg,’’ he said.
The Echo Taskforce was formed two years ago to crack down on gxxg related crimes.
Around 1500 cannabis plants at different levels of maturity were found in several large sheds and a house on the property.
The cannabis haul is believed to have a street value of around $6 million.
A police spokesperson said investigators are exploring whether an outlaw motorcycle gxxg is involved however no further details on possible bikie connections could be confirmed.
