After Marine Corps General Peter Pace visited the The Wall, he told us about LCpl Guido Farinaro -- the first man who died under his command in Vietnam.
General Pace is one of nearly 100 million people who have visited The Wall since it opened 30 years ago. Whether the visitor served in Vietnam -- or in the armed forces at all – the memorial creates a personal connection to each of the names etched in granite.

Thirty years ago we broke ground on the The Wall. Today, many cannot imagine the National Mall without it.
Experiencing The Wall means something different to everyone: An opportunity to remember fallen loved ones, a chance to honor fellow veterans who exemplify bravery and service to country, a gateway into one of the most powerful and trying times in our nation’s history, or even a place to offer a silent “thank you.”
