Dozens of motorcycle enthusiasts took over the steps of the Josephine County Court House. They rallied against what they believe to be profiling by law enforcement.
Motorcycle clubs from all over Southern Oregon gathered Saturday afternoon, in hopes of raising awareness and shedding light to a problem they say is seen statewide.
Motorcyclists shouted their frustrations outside the courthouse.
We asked leaders of the clubs about what specific issues they have faced with law enforcement in Josephine County.
Members said they could not comment on specifics but did say they believe officials have had no justification in a number of traffic stops experienced by fellow members.
The clubs' attorney said they are in discussion about pursuing legal action. Members say it's an effort to make sure that the clubs are not tied to the category of criminal street organizations, like gangs.
"This is the baby step, step one then we go to our legislature, state capitol, so on and so forth. It all starts in a small community legislation first," said Vagos Motorcycle Club member, John Stolebarger.
The motorcycle clubs who attended Saturday said they plan to take their concerns to the state's capitol.
A large rally is scheduled to take place in Salem on May fourth, where public officials are expected to address the issues motorcyclists face.
We asked the Josephine County Sheriff's office about the protester's concerns. The sheriff's office said they do not know why these bikers are upset and said they can not make a comment on the subject at this time.
