A couple led police on a more than 100-mile chase and ended it with a kiss and eventual surrender on a North County freeway after the driver's motorcycle ran out of gas, authorities said.
The pursuit started after the driver, Gabriel Barajas, 48, failed to pull over for a traffic stop ---- the driver was reportedly speeding ---- in Newhall in the San Fernando Valley about 1:45 p.m., Oceanside-based California Highway Patrol officer Jim Bettencourt said.
His passenger on the 1993 Honda motorcycle,  Stacy Veronica, 49, was not wearing a helmet during the chase, which reached speeds up to 95 mph as it ran through Los Angeles and Orange counties, Bettencourt said.
The pursuit ended when the bike ran out of gas on southbound Interstate 5 at Las Pulgas road, about eight miles north of Oceanside, the officer said.
CHP officers shut down the freeway for about 10 minutes during the arrest of the Sylmar couple, who stood next to the bike and engaged in a final kiss before eventually surrendering, Bettencourt said. Both were arrested for resisting arrest, and Barajas was also detained for evading officers, Bettencourt said.
