Bikies descend on Gold Coast.
Hundreds of members of the Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang are expected to descend on the Gold Coast on Friday.
The parade from the gang's fortified Brisbane headquarters at Browns Plains is part of the Hells Angels national run, and is seen by police as a show of force against their bitter rivals, the Finks.
More than 200 patched members of the Hells Angels will ride in convoy to Surfers Paradise, where they plan to stay for the weekend.
Police say they do not know the exact route the bikies will take but they will be shadowed by members of Task Force Hydra, set up in 2006 to fight rapidly expanding outlaw motorcycle gangs in Queensland.
The police operation will also involve other units and officers drawn from around the region.
While the Hells Angels do not have a clubhouse on the Gold Coast, Task Force Hydra has been keeping a close watch on the activities of members who live in the city.
In December a gym run by a patched member of the Hells Angels at Helensvale, on the northern end of the Gold Coast, was riddled with bullets from a high-calibre weapon in what police believe was a clear message for the gang to leave town.
And a Finks member was charged with a number of offences after armed police swooped on a fast food outlet at Runaway Bay on Thursday afternoon where three men were arrested.
Police allege one man was carrying a handgun and another a knife, while a rifle, ammunition, drugs and two snakes were found when officers searched a home a short time later.
Three men will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday and Saturday on a string of counts including alleged firearms, drug, arson, car theft, stealing and breach of bail offences.
Police are worried any attempt by the Hells Angels to establish a base on the Gold Coast will trigger a full-blown turf war with the Finks.
