November 30, 2011 11:47:51 PM The Marysville Police Department is poised to launch a new traffic safety campaign with the hope of reducing deaths and injuries on city streets.
Sgt. Chris Sachs said the new campaign, which formally kicks off Dec. 16, will focus on high traffic intersections and streets while targeting speeding, red-light running, seat belt use, motorcycle safety and drivers with suspended or revoked licenses.
“The goal is to reduce collision rates,” Sachs said.
The campaign is funded through a $40,054 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
Funding will also provide drug impairment training for two officers to better detect drivers under the influence of drugs “on-the-spot,” Sachs said.
The Office of Traffic Safety reported a nearly 12 percent decline in overall traffic deaths in 2010.
