CA" Video surveillance installed in Pacoima

OFF THE WIRE
Pacoima
A video surveillance system will help police fight crime in the Pacoima area.
Under a program funded by the Community Redevelopment Agency, cameras have been mounted on utility poles along a stretch of Van Nuys Boulevard between the Golden State (5) Freeway and Foothill Boulevard.
City Councilman Richard Alarcon introduced the motion to commit $360,000 for the purchase and implementation of the Wireless Surveillance Camera System.
"When we can't provide more police officers, this provides additional eyes for us to be able to monitor areas where we have high concentrations of crime," Alarcon said at a mid-morning news conference at the LAPD's Foothill Station.
The surveillance images, which are recorded and archived, will be monitored by police officers, reserves and community volunteers.
