OFF THE WIRE
A 58-year-old Groveland man's niece died Sunday afternoon when the three-wheel motorcycle he was driving crashed along Cherry Lake Road.
Basmattie Persad, 43, of Canada, was fatally injured when she was ejected from the motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
An incident report said Ramlakhan Singh was driving his 2010 Harley Davidson trike southbound on Cherry Lake Road at about 2 p.m. when he lost control near the intersection of Cherry Lakes Groves Road.
The trike left the roadway, crossed a ditch and drove through some bushes before striking a tree.
The crash remains under investigation and charges may be pending, the FHP said.
This is the third motorcycle fatality involving a Lake County motorcyclist in a week. On Nov. 13, a 51-year-old Sorrento biker and his 20-year-old passenger from Lake Mary died when his 2007 Harley struck the rear of a car in Volusia County.
Donn Wolf of the Warlocks Motorcycle Club and Angela "Angie" Curcio died at the scene. The car's driver and her passenger received minor injuries, the FHP said.
