AUSTRALIA - Police say bikxx gxxx a 'threat to community'

OFF THE WIRE
An outlaw motorcycle gang which has established a chapter in Deniliquin has been warned it is not welcome in the southern Riverina town.

The crime manager of the Deniliquin local area command, Darren Cloake, says in the past two months, the Outlaws Motorcycle Club has set up a clubhouse in an industrial shed in Deniliquin.

Inspector Cloake says Deniliquin council is investigating whether the club is legally allowed to use the shed.

He says there was an inspection of the clubhouse last week.

"We had a member of the council present to determine if that building was being used in accordance with the DA [development application]," he said.

"From my knowledge there appears there has been a breach and that clubhouse has been identified as a point of assembly. I'm hoping the council supports us and give them an eviction notice.

"We see them as a threat to the community but they may give the indication they're doing nothing wrong.

"In general terms, and I know professionally, outlaw motorcycle gangs bring harm.

"Outlaw motorcycle gang members are generally responsible for drug manufacture and supply, on the periphery type of offences, property theft, you could even go extortions."

Inspector Cloake says he believes the group is sponsored by a chapter in northern Victoria.

"In some respects I'm terribly disappointed that they have managed to bring themselves into this area," he said.

"From the information I've been supplied from the community, they're not wanted and there's no need for them to be here.

"It is a great concern and one that I will be definitely pursuing as far as making sure these people fit into community standards that are set here."
