AN ARMY of bikers will ride slowly through East Yorkshire this weekend to protest against proposed restrictions on motorcyclists.
About 500 bikers will gather on the A63 on Sunday to take part in the hour-long rolling demo ride.
The EU Hands Off Biking rally is part of a nationwide protest taking place at 150 locations, organised by the Motorcycle Action Group (Mag).
The riders are holding the demo to voice concerns about EU proposals that would introduce new restrictions on motorcyclists.
Jolyon Lawson, chairman of East Yorkshire Mag and vice-chairman of the national Mag, said he is confident the rally can make a difference.
He said: "Nationally, thousands of bikers are taking part. We are hoping we can make a difference and make our voice heard.
"If passed, these regulations will have a profound effect on he motorcycle industry.
"The new proposals are quite vast, but one of the major points is the proposed anti-tampering regulation.
"People wouldn't be able to home service their motorbike or change any part of it and that would be appalling.
"If you buy a new car, you can adjust the seat and steering wheel, but we are being told we won't even be able to change the handlebars."
The bikers say the aim of the demonstration is to make their voices heard with the least amount of disruption to other road-users.
Mr Lawson said: "In the past, we have shut down the centre of London with our protests, but it brings bad publicity.
"We've chosen Sunday at 1pm so it will have the minimum impact on other road-users. We do not want to upset other road-users, we want their support.
"If the proposals go through, it could have a knock-on effect to all road-users."
Riders from East Yorkshire Mag will meet at the North Ferriby services on the westbound carriageway of the A63 at 1pm on Sunday. They will travel at 45mph in the inside lane onto the M62, M18 and M180 before coming back over the Humber Bridge.
