EL DORADO HILLS, CA - An El Dorado Hills man was nearly mistaken for a Vagos gang member during a shoot out inside Sparks' John Asguaga's Nugget Hotel Friday evening.
Rudy Reyes said he heard shots fired then found himself right next to the Hells Angel shooter.
"I was actually 8 feet away from the down Hell's Angels that was sitting there and you could see blood," said Reyes. He said shots were being fired from a member walking around the casino floor seemingly trying to protect a fallen member.
"He was just walking around, just, pop, pop, pop.... pop pop pop... basically yelling everyone - just down."
Reyes said he stayed calm - his only defense for what would happen next.
"He was right there with the gun pointed directly at me. You never forget eyes staring at you - of course even the barrel of a gun," said Reyes.
Reyes believes the Hells Angel member was looking around the room for Vagos gang members - known for wearing the color green.
He believes things may have been ended differently if he had been wearing that color that night.
Instead, Reyes said he was able to keep the gunman from shooting him by saying, "It's okay, I'm here to help. I can help your friend if you want."
Investigators say the shootings killed a Hells Angel leader from San Jose and injured 2 rival Vagos gang members.
