AUSTRALIA - Bikie link to Penrith extortion attempt

OFF THE WIRE
PENRITH police arrested and charged a 29-year-old man from Oxley Park following investigations into an alleged extortion attempt.

The man is allegedly a member of the Rebels motorcycle gxxg.

Two men had allegedly entered into negotiations regarding the sale of property in July.

Police have been told by the victim that he transferred a sum of money to the accused, but did not receive any property in return.

The accused allegedly later demanded more money, threatening violence if he did not receive it.

Penrith local area command crime manager Detective Inspector Grant Healey said the arrest showed that people should not be scared to report such matters to police.

“Police will investigate the matters and do everything possible to put these people before the courts,” he said.

“The efforts of the local police were outstanding, from the moment the complainant came in until the arrest.

“Police in the Penrith local area command will continue to target members of organised crime groups, including outlaw motorcycle gxxgs.”
