Police to cross borders after bikies

THE days of rogue bikie gangs escaping justice by crossing state borders may be over.
A meeting this week of gang squad police looked at the introduction of uniform national anti-bikie laws.
If such laws were brought in, officers would be able to work across borders instead of each state and territory staying within its own jurisdiction.
The Australian reports today that the meeting also discussed having an FBI-style centre in each state where representatives from every police force, the Australian Crime Commission, Department of Corrective Services, the tax office, Customs and Austrac would work together.
The proposal would also include uniform penalties for possession and distribution of anabolic steroids.
