A high-ranking Hells Angels bikie has been arrested in Sydney over $2.3 million in fraud offences.
The 54-year-old was allegedly involved in the attempted fraudulent financing of earth-moving equipment, Harley Davidson motorcycles and an inner-city property.
Police believe he is part of a wider organised criminal group involved in large scale fraud within the finance industry.
The man was arrested at Surry Hills police station about 3.30pm (AEST) on Thursday and charges are expected to be laid.
Police allege he is a high-ranking member of the Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang.
The arrest follows investigations by Strike Force Apia, established in September 2007 to investigate incidents of alleged complex, large-scale mortgage fraud.
A total of 16 people have been arrested by these detectives, with more than 100 charges laid relating to a total of $15 million in fraudulent loans.
