Vietnam veterans motorcycle club plans fundraiser for wall

he Clarksville chapter of the Vietnam Legacy Veterans Motorcycle Club will be conducting a fundraising run to the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall exhibit for the Memorial Day weekend. Riders of all types of bikes are invited to participate in today’s run, and representatives of many other local clubs are expected to be on hand.

The first bikes out will leave from Appleton Harley-Davidson at noon with escort to the wall, which is on display at the Eagle’s Rest Pavilion of Fort Campbell’s Destiny Parks complex.

Participants should begin arriving at 10:30 a.m. today. There will be a DJ, as well as an auction and door prizes. Food and drinks (waters and sodas) will also be available.

Following the run to the Vietnam Traveling Wall, there will be a Poker Run from the site going to B.A. Wolfe Powersports, Mid-South Honda-Suzuki-Yamaha, and L.A. Motors and Customs, with the last bikes back in at 4 p.m.

Proceeds from the run will be used for the upkeep of the POW/MIA wall located at Patriot Park, including fixing damage from vandalism, replacing the flag and re-marbling the wall.

MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS
• Candlelight Vigil, hosted by Chapter 396 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, 7 p.m. Sunday, Robert E. Thompson Memorial Garden in Veterans Plaza, 350 Pageant Lane.
• Memorial Day ceremony, presented by the Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization, 10 a.m. Monday, at Veterans Memorial Park, 1300 Madison St.
• Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West Memorial Day program, 11 a.m. Monday, Highway 41A near Hopkinsville, followed by lunch at noon at VFW Post 1913 in Hopkinsville.
• Fort Donelson National Cemetery events, hosted by Chapter 104 of the Disabled American Veterans, luminaria tribute 7:30 p.m. Sunday; Memorial Day service 1 p.m. Monday, at cemetery off U.S. Highway 79 near Dover.
