Myrtle Beach Police Officer Michael Marsh said he was assaulted by a Hell's Angels motorcycle club member Saturday afternoon while he was attending a picnic and cookout at a friend's house in the Forestbrook area of Horry County.
One man was arrested and charged with simple assault.
Horry County Police Lt. Kevin Duke said reports indicate the child of the homeowner on Deer Trace Circle where Marsh was spending the afternoon had gotten into an argument at school with the child of the next-door neighbor.
One of the next-door neighbors is a member of the Hell's Angels, Duke said, and gathered a group of Hells Angels to come over. Duke said police reports show that a woman was assaulted and when Marsh stepped in, he was assaulted, too.
The woman, who lives at the home on Deer Trace Circle, did not press charges, Duke said. But Marsh did.
Joshua Joseph Johnson, 41, of Little River, was stopped in a car a little while after the fight and was arrested on suspicion of simple assault. He was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center this afternoon about 4:30 p.m. after a bond hearing, but officials at the jail did not have the bond amount.
Duke said a group of Hell's Angels showed up flying their club colors at the bond hearing, but there were no problems.
Duke said Marsh was not seriously injured.
