PARKERSBURG — Crash claims Lafayette man’s life

A two-vehicle crash Saturday night on U.S. 231 involving a dirt bike and a motorcycle claimed the life of a 27-year old Lafayette man.
Kyle Adam Martin, the driver of the motorcycle, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital- Crawfordsville, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the dirt bike, Thomas Scott, 23, of 9321 S. U.S. 231 also was taken to the local hospital with what was described as nonlife-threatening injuries.Chief Deputy Ryan Needham of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said police received a call at 7:22 p.m. Saturday at 9321 S. U.S. 231.
“The accident involved a motorcycle and a dirt bike and it occurred on the highway,” he said.
The accident closed U.S. 231 for a time while emergency personnel were on the scene.
Needham said the accident was still under investigation.
Follow ing the accident there were reports that altercations involving firearms occurred at the emergency room involving members of a motorcycle gang. However, Crawfordsville Police Chief Kurt Knecht said those rumors were exaggerated.
“There were a number of members of a motorcycle gang at the hospital and they were upset as they were the friends of the deceased,” he said. “The Crawfordsville SWAT team was deployed as we got a call of numerous members of the motorcycle gang at the hospital. They were very civil and we did not have any problems.”
Agencies working the accident were: S&W Rescue, New Market Fire Department, Crawfordsville medics, Indiana State Police, Crawfordsville Police Department, Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
