Astralia - Promise to have more police on the beat

OFF THE WIRE
CAMDEN MP Geoff Corrigan has welcomed the state government's promise to spend $60 million to have 360 extra police officers in NSW if Labor is re-elected this weekend.
The boost will bring the strength of the NSW Police Force to a record 16,166 officers.
Under the policy, the government will also set up a permanent Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs Unit to target violence and criminal activity among bikies and other criminal groups.
Mr Corrigan said the police commissioner would allocate where the police officers would go and what resources would be given to each command. Have always believed that this is the way we should run police — to have the professional police officers who know what's best for the area to make these decisions," he said.
"The extra investment will help NSW police prosecute and prevent crime.
"NSW police do a fantastic job keeping communities like Camden safe. More police and resources will mean that the police are even more equipped to tackle crime when and where it happens."
