Updated: By: Karen Hensel INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - 24 hour news 8 has obtained two letters tonight from the family of Eric Wells, one to the Governor of Indiana.
Wells was killed by an IMPD officer we now know was drunk as Wells sat at a stoplight. The letters were sent to 24 Hour News 8 Anchor Karen Hensel who has been poring over them tonight.
The parents wrote the letter a month ago to the Governor and say they still have not received a reply. The letter asks for a meeting with the governor and reads "your lack of concern for my family and the other families directly involved are noted."
Then they take issue with Governor Daniels potential run for president. They say "regardless of your political ambitions in the future, i.e. presidential bid, the State of Indiana should have your full attention." The parents write "You can’t take care of the country if you can't take care of the state of Indiana and its citizens."
It is signed Sincerely, Aaron and Mary Wells.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the governor says “he did respond in a handwritten letter 2-3 weeks ago.”
In a 24 Hour News 8 exclusive the brother of Eric Wells, Ryan, has released his letter to Mayor Ballard only to WISH-TV.
Ryan's letter to the mayor dated August 23rd is emotional and takes the mayor to task. In part it reads "This will be a long journey Mayor Ballard. This will not take care of itself. It will not disappear overnight."
Ryan then writes "You can, not ask, but demand Indiana State Police are brought in to uphold state law, rather than a federal agency unable, and probably unwilling, to get involved any further than they must."
"This is on you, Mayor Ballard. The people are watching. And we want answers..."
He signs the letter "Ryan Wells, A Brotherless Brother".
Ryan tells me his family’s grief is turning from sorrow to anger.
