Pomona police plan motorcycle safety enforcement operation

Pomona police officers will conduct a motorcycle safety enforcement operation Monday throughout the city to target dangerous riders.
The department will be deploying extra officers to patrol areas where motorcyclists - as well as crashes - tend to occur in the hope of preventing unnecessary crashes, according to a police news release. Motorcycle fatalities have increased 103 percent in California, from 276 killed in 2000 to 560 killed in 2008, according to the news release. The enforcement operation is funded a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
