http://www.mesquitelocalnews.com/viewnews.php?newsid=5780&id=11 DMV Releases Motorcycle Specialty Plates Posting Date: 07-03-2010
Fundraising and veterans plates now available in the smaller size
Motorcyclists will be able to contribute to Nevada charitable causes through specialty license plates.
The new program began Thursday, July 1.
The Department of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing 39 of its specialty plate designs in the smaller size used on motorcycles and small trailers.
The new plates include all of the fundraising plates and those for veterans, Purple Heart recipients and Gold Star families.
Fees and qualifications are the same as the large plates with the exception of the Prison Industry Fee.
This fee is reduced by 50 cents as motorcycles are issued one plate rather than two.
The new plates with standard numbering will be in stock at DMV offices.
Motorists who wish to swap out an existing motorcycle or small trailer plate can do so by visiting a DMV office.
A registration renewal is not required, but a $5 substitute plate fee will apply in addition to the specialty plate fees.
Personalized plates can be ordered in person or by mail.
The department’s website, www.dmvnv.com, has complete details and a personalized plate search.
Nevada’s specialty license plates have raised about $4.2 million per year for charities in recent years.
They have raised $27.6 million total since 1998.
There are currently about 197,000 charitable plates in use and about 61,000 motorcycles with active registrations in Nevada.
