Story 2 Comments Font Size: Thomas County deputies want to make sure riders are safe as they cruise.
Officials say motorcycle accidents take place more in the summer than any other time of the year.
One reason, they say, is because of the increased amount of traffic. But staying safe is still the number one priority.
Deputy Josh Collins with Thomas County Sheriff's Office says, "We want people to pay attention to the fact that motorcycles are smaller vehicles. It's not a full size vehicle like a car or truck that you can see coming down the road at you. We always say look twice and save a life".
Rick Vanderhoff who owns motorcycle shop in Thomasville says, "I'm always looking for an escape route. People do fall out in front of you. It's kind of hard for automobile drivers to judge the speed. A motorcycle really can't stop as fast as everyone thinks".
Officials also encourage riders to make sure their equipment is properly maintained and that you are wearing proper gear. They say this can minimize some accidents.
