Sheriff's deputies arrested a Loma Linda man Monday after they caught him driving a stolen car loaded with two stolen motorcycles. Robert Anderson, 34, was booked at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on suspicion of taking a vehicle without permission, evading deputies and violating parole.
The San Bernardino County sheriff's department received a call at 5:25 a.m. about a man who loaded a motorcycle into the trunk of a dark sedan and drove off in the 31000 block of Old City Creek Road in Running Springs.
Dispatchers notified deputies from the Highland station to keep an eye out for the vehicle in case the driver headed down Highway 330 to Highland.
At 5:39 a.m., a deputy spotted someone in a 1996 Honda Civic at the bottom of the highway. The Civic had a motorcycle sticking out of the trunk.
The deputy tried to stop Anderson, but he sped away, leading the deputy on a short chase. Anderson eventually stopped, got out of the car and ran.
Deputies and San Bernardino police searched for the man and found him at 5:49 a.m.
The Civic had been reported stolen from Running Springs. The two motorcycles - both small, 50cc models - were stored in the back seat and trunk of the Honda. Detectives went to Anderson's home and found a trailer stolen from Running Springs, along with off-road vehicles. Investigators are trying to determine who owns the off-road vehicles.
