The Pocono Mountains Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club will hold its annual Victory Tour and 1866 Ball Saturday at Fernwood Resort in Middle Smithfield Township.

The event will feature food, music and vendors from noon to 5 p.m., with the Victory Tour starting from Fernwood at 1 p.m. and the 1866 Ball from 7 to 11 p.m.

The Buffalo Soldiers were segregated units of African-American soldiers formed by the U.S. government after the Civil War to help tame the western frontier by fighting Native Americans deemed as "hostile" and pursuing outlaws. The motorcycle club named after these soldiers is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the recreation of motorcycling and educating people about the Buffalo Soldiers.

The Pocono Mountains Buffalo Soldiers started the Victory Tour five years ago to benefit diabetes education efforts in honor of a club member's daughter who had diabetes.

Twenty of the club's Pennsylvania chapters are expected to take part.

The 1866 Ball, which honors the year the original Buffalo Soldiers were formed, features people dressed in authentic clothes from that period and dancing.
