AUSTRAILIA - Roar power, as bikies hit road for memorial

OFF THE WIRE
THE roar of Harley-Davidsons was heard from Milperra to Gosford yesterday as hundreds of Comanchero members from across Australia converged for their annual national ride on the weekend. Led by their acting president, Mark Buddle, crews from Western Australia, Victoria and NSW rode to Palmdale cemetery, where they paid their respects to former motorcycle gang members who were killed in the infamous Milperra massacre in 1984.

The Father's Day shoot-out happened after Comanchero members broke away and formed the Bandidos club chapter in Australia. Seven people were killed, including a 14-year-old girl, and many were injured when the groups fought at the Viking Tavern, in a clash recently depicted by television series Bikie Wars: Brothers in Arms.
The Comanchero, riding on at least 200 motorcycles, were surrounded by a heavy police presence, including from the anti- bikie Strike Force Raptor.
Before the riders left the Milperra clubhouse, police checked licences, registration and gave breath tests as part of their efforts to clamp down on outlaw motorcycle clubs.
