Using Social Media like Copblock to effect CHANGE in the ‘System’
What is the point of facebook and other social medias, and the internet in general, in our lives. The internet was created to bring computers together, what it has done to our global society is an exact parallel, it has brought people together.
Already, in places around the world, websites like Twitter and facebook have become warzones, whether or  not we choose to recognize them as such. Unhappy people are finding out that there are a lot of other unhappy people out there as well and they are sharing their stories. It is happening on country-wide levels, as seen in places like Syria, Turkey and many others in the so-called “Arab-Spring”. Whether or not these changes of government will benefit those countries or not remains to be seen, and we should all be eagerly awaiting the results of what does happen, as again there is a parallel, this time to events occurring within the United States.
Many people, likely in order to make themselves feel better, compare the Occupy movement to the Tea Party movement, and while there are comparisons to be drawn there are also many differences. Occupy is a sprawling movement with no figureheads and no sponsors aside from the donations of citizens, who give food, shelter and books and are harassed by the police for doing so.
The people in the United States are slowly waking up to the realization that they are being screwed over, and they are realizing it on social websites. This is one of the many reasons that internet censorship bills are so dangerous, they limit the ability of people to organize themselves into groups of people who share common goals or grievances. In China, the government, through monitoring phones and the internet, sends police anytime more then 30 people congregate.
Things are changing, inevitably so. Not because of Obama because the people are waking up to the fact that their dreams have been stolen out from under them by greedy corporations. My generation’s children will live in a better world than the one I am living in because that is what I want, I want things to change. Conservative or Liberal, no one wants their money and jobs and houses and cars stolen from them by corporations that pay their C.E.O’s hundreds of millions of dollars. Why? Because it isn’t fair. We have a Constitution in this country that provides fairness for all, but the government is no longer playing by those rules. You have a better chance of being killed by not receiving medical aid or being killed accidentally killed by a police officer then by a terrorist.
The government is your enemy, not your friend. Vote for the future.
The police are your enemy, they will casually ruin your lives for no reason. Fear them until change can be brought about in that system.
Corporations are your enemy, they will steal your money. Avoid them and they will disappear.
Stop letting people screw you over. Stand up for yourself. That’s how things used to be in America. We have slowly been taught that our wants and opinions don’t matter, that there are those who know better than us and that we should listen to them. Listening to ‘them’ has only gotten us living in the world we live in now and I don’t know many people that are happy with the way things are.
All you Copblockers, be proud of yourselves. Wear your gear with pride. Share your stories with pride. Send some of them my way so that we can all learn more about the world we live in. Copblock is your weapon, use it to shame the police until no one is left to defend them.
