OFF THE WIRE
Rochester, N.Y. —
Several Rochester-area Hell's Angels members and their associates are accused of dealing hundreds of grams of methamphetamine, facing federal charges related to drug dealing in a new indictment that follows up from an investigation last year.
Federal prosecutors say multiple Rochester Hell's Angels members and their associates, along with a chapter president in California, are charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison, and a $4 million fine. Federal prosecutors say those charged sold the drug between 2002 and July 9, 2010.
Prosecutors say the Rochester-area Hells' Angels Motorcycle Club is active in the territory from Rochester to Interstate 81 just outside of Syracuse.
News10NBC began following the federal investigation last year, when Rochester Hell's Angels members were investigated in connection with a baseball bat assault incident.
Those charged include: James H. McAuley Jr., 62, of Oakfield, Richard E. Riedman, 38, of Webster, Jeffrey A. Tyler, 47, of Rochester, Gordon L. Montgomery, 53, of Batavia, Paul S. Griffin, 58 of Blasdell and Donna Boon, 46, of Oakfield.
Boon is also facing an additional charged of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution, of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine between April and July, 9, 2010. A California Hell's Angel president, Richard W. Mar, 60, was also charged.
There's also been charges filed in connection with the baseball bat assault that happened at Spender's Bar, located in Lyell Avenue in Rochester back in May 2006.
Federal prosecutors say McAuley, along with Hell's Angel member Robert "Bugsy" Moran, 59, of Rochester, and their associate Gina Tata, 47, of Rochester, assaulted a patron at the bar after the patron made "disparaging remarks" about the motorcycle club, according to an superceding indictment on the case handed down in April 2011.
Prosecutors say Tata, along with Riedman and Timothy M. Stone, 31, of Gates, helped Moran and McAuley avoid getting arrested after the assault.
McAuley, Moran and Tata are all facing assault with a dangerous weapon charges, Moran and Tata are also facing conspiracy charges and Tata, along with Riedman and Stone, are facing accessory charges.
