Keith Silva Sentenced
Keith Allen Silva, a former President of the Berdoo chapter of the Vagos Motorcycle Club, was sentenced to 75 years in state prison last week for murder.
Silva and a former Berdoo chapter Sergeant at Arms named David Anthony “Kilo” Beltran were convicted of killing a Vagos prospect named Dennis Daoussis (photo above). Beltran was arrested for the murder in September 2007. He was sentenced last May to 50 years in the penitentiary.
“The case kind of hit a dead end,” a San Bernardino County cold case detective named Greg Myler told the San Bernardino Press-Enterprise after Beltran, who was in prison in Chino at the time, was arrested. “Witnesses and people who knew witnesses were afraid of retaliation if they were to offer any help to us.” Myler told the Press-Enterprise. “But sometime last year,” the account explained, “with the aid of strained relationships and the passing of time, people once connected to the Vagos gang began to talk.”
Two years later, after Silva’s arrest, the same paper explained that the investigation involved “a lot of shoe leather…which led detectives to Hawaii and Georgia for interviews.”
The Crime
Myler has said that Daoussis’ murder was “a culmination of things.” During Silva’s trial prosecutors said that Daousis had borrowed $3,000 from a Vago named Sammy Langager in order to buy a motorcycle. Daousis agreed to meet Langager in the parking lot of the TA Truck Stop in Ontario with the title to the bike. After Langager waited all night for Daousis he complained to Silva.
According to prosecutors, Beltran and Silva kidnapped Daousis from his home on Banana Road in Fontana, California, beat him, drove him to an isolated area near in Landers, California, then shot and killed him.
Off road riders found Daousis’ body on April 5, 2003.
The Legal Dance
Silva was convicted of murder, torture and kidnapping 14 months ago. Before sentencing, he asked Judge Ingrid Uhler for a new trial on grounds of being represented by an ineffective counsel. Uhler denied the motion.
Silva’s attorney, Stuart O’Melveny, intends to appeal the conviction.
