SACRAMENTO - Bikers from across California descended on the South Side steps of the Capitol building at 10:30 a.m. Monday to support two bills that would modify the state's helmet law and banish motorcycle-only checkpoints.
The gathering was the 2012 installment of the yearly Motorcycle Rally for all motorcycles, riders and passengers held by the American Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education (ABATE).

One of the bills in question, Assembly 1047, would prohibit the use of any Federal, State or other highway safety funds to be used for selective motorcycle-only enforcement violations.
The second, Assembly Bill 695, would make licensed motorcycle drivers above 18 years of age who complete a safety training meeting exempt from the current helmet law. California currently requires all motorcycle riders and passengers to wear CHP approved helmets while driving on California roadways.
The Assembly Bills were heard at the Capitol Building at 1 p.m
