Harkin Announces over $100,000 to Improve Motorcycle Safety in Iowa
WASHINGTON D.C. - Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau has been awarded $103,866.00 by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Incentive Grant Program to increase motorcycle safety. The funding will be used to improve motorcyclist safety training curricula and program delivery and measures to increase recruitment or retention of training instructors and public outreach programs to enhance driver awareness of motorcyclists. Harkin is a member of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds the DOT.
“This funding will go a long way towards increasing awareness for all motorists in the state,” said Harkin. “Increasing education about motorcycle safety is important to keeping our roads, riders, children and drivers safe.”
