You Might Be a Criminal, The federal government wants to arrest YOU!

OFF THE WIRE
The federal government wants to arrest YOU!
Every year, overly-ambitious prosecutors and rogue judges bent on forcing their beliefs on the American justice system uses thousands of obscure unknown laws to put innocent Americans just like you in jail.
Since the 1980s, the United States Criminal Code has added nearly 1,500 new criminal offenses. There are now over 4,450 crimes that you can be put in jail for. Do you think you can learn them all in order to avoid being arrested?
Federal criminal law used to focus on obviously wrong deeds, like murder and stealing. But now you can be put in jail for things you never even knew were illegal. Every year, Americans (even children) are criminalized for doing things that the average person would think were perfectly legal.
You could be a criminal and not even know it.
These new criminal laws are being created by bureaucrats and are being passed about as regularly as Obama's regulations. The Congressional Research Service has even admitted that it couldn't count all of the offenses. Their best estimate was "tens of thousands." Basically, Congress doesn't even know just how massive the criminal law is.
Yet they are arresting folks just like you, for crimes you don't even know exist.
A recent study from the Heritage Foundation and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) found that three out of every five new non-violent criminal offenses do not require criminal intent to prosecute. This means that you can be arrested for not knowing a crime existed and without intending to commit that crime.
And the laws keep coming!
New crimes are being passed at the rate of about one new crime per week. Even when Congress isn't in session!
And once you've been arrested, the price to try and clear your name will financially ruin you. Even IF you manage to defeat the Feds, your life as you know it will be destroyed. The cost of hiring a defense attorney and trying to combat the endless resources of the federal government is nearly impossible.
If the federal government has decided they want to prosecute you, there's nothing you can do about it. Whether you go to jail or not depends on how much money you have to spend to defend yourself. It might not even work, and you'll be financially ruined trying to clear your name. But that's what the Feds want.
The overcriminalization of America MUST stop!
Innocent Americans just like you are being put in jail or financially ruined for crimes they didn't even know existed and for doing things they never imagined were wrong! When will Washington stop trying to turn every American into a criminal? How long until YOU are accused of a crime you've never heard of?

In July of this year, an 11 year-old girl rescued a baby woodpecker from being eaten by a cat. She convinced her mother to let her rehabilitate the bird before releasing it back into the wild. So they went to their local home improvement store for some supplies, bringing the bird into the store with them instead of leaving it in the hot car.
There, an undercover agent from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced herself to the family and told them that under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act the woodpecker is a protected species, and that they need to release the bird because transporting it was illegal.
That's right, government agencies you never think about have undercover agents just waiting to catch you doing something illegal.
The young girl and her mother released the bird and called the Wildlife Service to let them know. Two weeks later, that same agent came back to their home with a state trooper and told the family they owed the government $535 for their "crime" and could face imprisonment - just for rescuing a baby bird! Had the story not broken out, this young, aspiring veterinarian and her mother might be in jail, unable to afford the defense needed to combat their alleged crime.
This isn't the only accidental criminal case. Small business owners are perhaps the most at risk, thanks to a law called the American Lacey Act. This law imposes fish and wildlife regulations from every other country onto American business owners, and if you violate one of those regulations, you will go to jail.
So if you own a small business, you need to know every regulation for every country you might get supplies from.
Take Abner (Abbie) Schoenwetter. He owned a successful seafood restaurant and imported his shrimp from Honduras. For over a decade he imported shrimp from the same exporter and in the same fashion: plastic bags.
Then one day federal agents arrested Abner, saying that because (this is no joke) the shrimp he imported were wrapped in plastic and not cardboard (how sanitary does cardboard seem?) he violated a Honduran regulation.
The Attorney General of Honduras wrote a letter on Abner's behalf saying that the regulation "were not applicable to Abbie's case."
But this did not save poor Abner. He spent six and a half years in prison for this "crime" and is now on parole for three more years. He went broke and lost everything trying to defend himself; his family, business and health were all destroyed because of some obscure law he never intended to break and never knew existed.
Three-time Indy 500 winner Bobby Unser has even been prosecuted. Unser went snowmobiling with a friend and got lost during a blizzard. He nearly died of hypothermia after his snowmobile broke down. After recovering, he spoke with U.S. Forest Service officials who claimed they would try to help him find his lost snowmobile. Using a map, Unser tried to remember where he thought his snowmobile might be.
After a few hours the officials finally revealed their true intention: to arrest Unser for wandering into a prohibited national wilderness area. Nevermind the fact that Unser had no idea where he was going since he couldn't see during the blizzard, these officials wanted to arrest him. He is now a federal criminal for circumstances out of his control.
The government might not even want to put you in jail. If they consider you their enemy, they might just want to fine you or destroy your business. Remember when Obama and his administration took over GM and Chrysler? Over a thousand dealerships were told to close, most of them owned by conservatives. Many of those closed were more successful than the dealerships owned by liberals.
Now Obama and his cronies want to prosecute the S&P for downgrading our credit rating. Trying to blame conservatives isn't working, so now Obama wants to arrest employees at this company. He's trying to find anything he can to criminalize those who have wronged him.
Next he's coming for you!
Cases like these are becoming all too common these days. Innocent men and women are learning about laws after being accused of committing them.
Should saving a baby bird be a crime? Should importing shrimp in plastic bags land you in prison? Should getting lost in a blizzard make you a federal criminal?
Are you a criminal?
Innocent Americans just like you are being put in jail or financially ruined for crimes they didn't even know existed and for doing things they never imagined were wrong! When will Washington stop trying to turn every American into a criminal? How long until YOU are accused of a crime you've never heard of?

Unless we want to become a nation of innocent criminals, we must stop these laws. Any new criminal law should be reviewed using the Criminal Law Checklist for Federal Legislators, which was put together by a wide variety of different organizations. It should be fair, should fall in line with the U.S. Constitution and also follow the rule of law.
Congress should justify all new crimes. A detailed report should be required for any new law, describing the problem that is supposed to be solved by the new law, cases which necessitate the new law and what other laws this new one will overlap with.
Benefit of the doubt should be given to the accused in cases of vague, broad laws which are obscure and not commonly known. Honest mistakes should not be criminalized.
Bad laws, including those that prosecuted the unfortunate people listed here, should be repealed. People should not be arrested for using the wrong container or the wrong label when shipping items. These are just no-brainers.
We cannot let the innocent Americans be put in jail because of an unjust law created by some un-elected bureaucrat. Please Fax every Member of Congress now and stop this kind of overcriminalization from taking place. Tell them you do not want to be a criminal for something that isn't wrong.

Sincerely,
Conservative Action Alerts

Whenever I see reports which demonize Obama, (when, really, it is clearly not just Obama, and "blame" is not just limited to only one of the two state-sponsored political parties), I think fact checks please.
Q. When was the Bobby Unser snowmobiling incident?
A. 1996
Q. John Lacey, the eight-term Congressman who introduced Lacey Act(s) starting in 1900, was a member of what political party?
A. Republican
Q. When was Abner Schoenwetter charged with smuggling and conspiracy?
A. 1999
Q. How many new federal laws which criminalize individuals were signed into law from 2000 to 2007?
A. Legal experts say there are more than 4,450 federal crimes on the books and as many as 300,000 federal regulations that can be enforced criminally. From 2000 to 2007, Congress created 452 entirely new crimes, said Brian Walsh, a senior legal research fellow at the Heritage Foundation who focuses on
overcriminalization.

So, this report might have been a good one, but they decided to make it sound like Obama is to blame for everything. "Next he's coming for you! " Yeah, well, f* you and the horse you rode in on, Conservative Action Alerts. You've reduced your report to DRIVEL by adding your political bias. The political party you support ALSO sucks. Obama sucks. So does Bush, Bachman, Perry, Romney, Paylin, Boner, Gingrich, and the rest of them.
