Steps for How to Get On a Motorcycle

When you first approach the motorcycle, approach from the kickstand side. Place both hands on the handgrips, making sure to cover both the brake and the clutch as you learned from your motorcycle safety course. Throw one leg over, pick up the bike, making sure you continue to cover both the brake and the clutch, put up the kickstand, and you're ready to go.It’s important to remember not to mount a motorcycle from the rear, like a pommel horse.

Notes About How to Get on a Motorcycle

Also never mount the motorcycle from the side opposite of the kickstand. If your bike is on a center stand, you can mount on whichever side feels most comfortable to you. Just like motorcycles with a kickstand, always remember to grab the handlebars and cover your clutch and brake levers.Once seated on the bike gently push forward until the center stand retracts. Make sure to keep both feet planted firmly on the ground while maneuvering the motorcycle. For more information, visit us on the web at About.com.
