OCEANSIDE ---- Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint starting at 8 p.m. Friday and running until 3 a.m., an Oceanside police lieutenant said.
Lt. Leonard Mara did not announce the specific location of the checkpoint.
The reason for the checkpoint, part of the department's drunken-driving enforcement and awareness program, is to reduce the number of drunken drivers on the road and prevent crashes caused by impaired driving.
Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
