Lathrop man shot, killed in parking lot

By The Record August 16, 2011 3:29 PM MANTECA — A 26-year-old Lathrop man was killed Monday evening in the parking lot of a Manteca area shopping center.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the victim, Danny Martinez, and another man were waiting outside of a business in the 17000 block of Ideal Parkway. They were standing near or sitting on their motorcycles when, witnesses told the Sheriff’s Office, a white, compact SUV sped through the parking lot and rammed one of the motorcycles.
Two men got out of the SUV and attacked Martinez and his friend. One retrieved a handgun from the SUV and shot both victims. The two suspects then got back into the SUV and sped away, the Sheriff’s Office said. They were not described in any detail.
When paramedics arrived, they pronounced Martinez dead. The other victim, a 30-year-old man, had been shot but was recovering after surgery at a local hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said it had no other information to release about the homicide, the 16th in its jurisdiction this year.
