Urgent - Please contact Nevada State Senator Breeden

OFF THE WIRE
Dear Sin City Victory Riders,

Below is a recorded plea from Bones, President of ABATE of Southern Nevada, to contact Senator Breeden sbreeden@sen.state.nv.us.
You'll recall Bones attended one of our SCVR meetings a few months ago to talk about the need for helmet choice in Nevada. He is not against wearing helmets - only against having the government criminalize us for what we wear on our heads.
This is a heated, passionate issue and I know that a lot of you believe that helmets save lives. Fine. But do you also agree that it is the government's job to force helmets on our heads? After looking at the data I am more and more convinced that there is no hard evidence to prove that motorcyclists who don't wear helmets are a burden on society. How many "vegetables" do YOU know? If there are any in Nevada (and I haven't been able to find one) then it was likely as a result of an injury while wearing a helmet since we've had a universal helmet law in Nevada since 1972. And did that helmet cause visual impairment that lead to the crash? When I wear my full face I fear losing control of the bike when I have to turn to see that a lane is clear for me to merge into it.
Nevada Senator Breeden chaired last week's hearing for the helmet choice bill in the Senate Transporation Committee. This means that if you prefer wearing a novelty helmet - or no helmet at all - the cops will not have the authority to give you a ticket. As it is, they have given a number of tickets to riders wearing novelty helmets even though these tickets, if challenged, are won in court. But who has the time or money to fight a helmet ticket in court? The fee for a helmet ticket in NLV is $300, LV is $200. These cops are killing our motorcyle tourism. Lets take away from law enforcers this tool to harass motorcyclists. The other benefit is that law enforcers will not need to be messed with by activists (like me) who object to a helmet law that is unenforceable when challenged.

LVMPD actually went to Carson City to lobby against this bill (paid lobbyists.) OUR TAX DOLLARS USED BY METRO PD TO LOBBY AGAINST OUR FREEDOMS! There are four of them just in LVMPD - not to mention other government agencies. http://www.leg.state.nv.us/AppCF/Lobbyist/reports/ListLobbyists.cfm?Paid=1&Session=76
Do they really care about safety? If they did they'd wear seatbelts on duty - which is why 50 cops were killed last year in the U.S. (a couple in LV recently) - failure to wear the seat belts that they force on us. Do they genuinely care about our "safety?" Or could helmet choice mean that someone will be laid off? I'm thinking the opposition from law enforcers is about job security.

Senator Breeden's email address is: sbreeden@sen.state.nv.us.
Please thank her for the great work she did in chairing the meeting. It was an unprecedently motorcyclist-friendly meeting!
This is only step one of getting the helmet choice in Nevada (38 years of this discriminatory law in this state!) Next it must go through the Assembly.
