OFF THE WIRE
.It is amazing how many people fall into the trap of believing what the
government says without question. The truth of helmet use has been changed
to make it look like motorcyclists are a burden on society and are not smart
enough to make decisions on their own. Nothing could be further from the
truth.

Less than one-tenth of 1 percent of motorcycle injuries require any public
assistance whereas 8 percent of automobile crashes require public
assistance.

----------- what's the source of this claim ? . . .

Also, all states that have given the motorcyclist the freedom to choose
whether to wear a helmet or not have experienced a tremendous growth in jobs
and in money coming into the state.

----------- source ? . . .

There are 30 states that now have no mandatory adult helmet law and the
accident figures also show that deaths are less in states that have no
mandatory adult helmet law.
------------ again, source ? . . .
Also, the head of NHTSA has stated that helmets are effective only 37
percent of the time.

----------- or is it 37% fewer deaths ? . . .

No one is trying to get anyone to stop using helmets. Motorcyclists are only
asking for the right to choose what safety gear is best for them and not for
the government to tell them what they have to wear.

Representative Andy Olson has served Oregon as a state trooper for many
years and believes very strongly in every citizen's right to liberty and to
make decisions for themselves. It is an honor to have Rep. Andy Olson
serving the citizens of Oregon.

...freedom isn't free: its price is eternal vigilance . . .

I suggest changing the language to "ineffective 63% of the time". That should rate a wow in just about any audience.
Here's another one: NC has a universal, mandatory statute, therefore virtually all motorcyclists on the public roads involved in motorcycle accidents were wearing helmets.
