MUSINK Tattoo & Music Festival – Day 1 – 3/4/2011

Day one of the 4th annual Musink Festival was kicked off with opening band CKY (Camp Kill Yourself). The Pennsylvania natives ran through a solid set of tunes to bring in the first night of musical performances. Known for the classic tracks heard in the skate/moronic stunt volumes CKY, Jackass, and Viva La Bam! Cky jam out Rio Bravo, My Promiscuous Daughter, Familiar Realm, Disengage the Simulator, and the anthem to the famous shopping cart skit 96 Quite Bitter Beings.

If the bands Rob Zombie and Black Sabbath were to have a spawn the mighty Attika 7 would be it! It is very surreal to see a band you have watch work its way up the ranks in this industry. From the club scene to Rockstar Uproar, and Musink. Also with the track “Greed and Power” featured in an episode of the hit FX show Sons of Anarchy. Fronted by singer Jay Rexx and axe grinder Rusty Attika 7 was a great fit into this years Musink. Into the Blackness opened the set for Attika 7 followed by Hellbound, Greed and Power, and Serial Killer. All tracks listed can be found on itunes, definitely a great e.p. to add to your library. Along with not only having a talent of playing guitar, Rusty is a custom chopper builder (Illusion Motorsports) and had an exhibit of some of OC’s finest custom choppers to view. Keep your eyes and ears open! Attika 7 will be riding down the highway to a town near you!

Recently Reunited Biohazard was next up in line on bill. Coming out of Brooklyn, NY Biohazard played an energizing set for the fans that were there to see them. It was apparent that the crowed was getting restless waiting for the headliner. Prior to the band hitting the stage bassist Even Seinfeld held a fashion show for his girlfriend Lupe Fuentes’ new line Sexy Little Angel .

SxTx!!! SxTx!!! SxTx!!! The crowed chants with every ounce of energy in the room, creeping close to the ten o’clock hour…. Time for the headliner… L.A.’s finest! SUICIDAL TENDENCIES!!!!

As the intro to “You Can’t Bring Me Down” plays the band takes the stage… Endless screaming and cheering from the crowd. The intro fades to the band picking up. Lead guitarists Dean Pleasants rips the intro solo in half!!! As the backbone and founding member, singer Mike Muir takes the stage. He looks at the Musink audience and says “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AROUND HERE!!!!” chaos strikes! One of the most powerful intro songs ever to be played. Muir running around stage like a mad man, the mosh pit is in FULL motion. SxTx just destroys the nearly pack house with hit after hit: Institutionalized, Join the New Army, Psycho Vision. Drummer Eric Moore pounded away on the kit. One of the most impressive drummers iv’e seen. Guitarist and backbone member as well Mike Clark chugged away at heavy riffs and also running around the stage mad. Being inside at the venue you would think there would be no surf…..wrong! Crowd surfers flooded the security barricade as original Z-Boy/Dogtown member Jay Adams watched from side stage. True Venice Beach royalty was in attendance tonight. During songs and in between them bassist Steve “Thundercat” Brunner showed off his amazing playing skills and crisp tone. As the set winded down Cyco Mike brought fans on stage to “Pledge Your Allegiance”. What an amazing and powerful show this was.
