PSAs Promote Motorcycle Safety For Military Members PSAs To Air At All Bases Beginning In April..

OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- A production crew used a closed freeway off-ramp near Highway 76 in Oceanside on Monday to film a series of public service announcements aimed at the members of the military who ride motorcycles.
"They get the proper training before they go out and fight, and we're trying to give them the proper training before they go out and ride motorcycles and that's what we're really all about," said professional motorcycle rider Chris McNeil, who is featured in the series.

To ride a motorcycle on base, each rider must pass a certified safety course, which has been effective in reducing accidents and fatalities. In 2008, 33 sailors died in motorcycle related crashes and in 2009, the number fell to 14. Similarly, 25 Marines died in 2008 and only 14 died a year later. Though the accidents and fatalities have decreased, they have not gone away.

"This is an effort to raise awareness and hopefully save lives," said Dirk Collins, the director for the promotional campaign.

Collins said the PSAs will be played at every base in all branches of military beginning in April. The PSAs will also be combined with print and online campaigns.
