WA Legislative Brief

OFF THE WIRE
Legislation has been sponsored in both houses to set limitaions on law enforcement tactics used against motorcyclists.
Yesterday (1-17-2011), HB1333 and SB5242-Addressing Motorcycle Profiling, were established for the legislative session in Washington/
Last year, the House passed the same bill by a vote of 96-2, however the session was too short, and the bill did not make it to hearing in the Senate

This year nearly the entire Senate Judiciary committee has signed on as sponsors, including the Chair. This almost certainly guarantees a hearing and passage by the entire Senate body.

With the overwhelming passage in the House last year, it really looks like this bill will end up on the Governors desk for signature into law.

In other new, HB1328/SB5185- Suspending certain laws for motorcyclist participating in Parades has already been scheduled for a hearing. This Thursday (1-20-11) ar 3:30pm. I believe you can tune into the hearing on-line at 'TVW.org'. http://www.leg.wa.gov/pages/home.aspx

Thursday also happens to be the motorcycle legislative day "Black Thursday', so the communty should be well represented at the Capitol and in the hearing room. I will personally be testifying as BOLT Director, ABATE Legislative Affairs Officer, US Defender, and Guerilla Lawfare Founder. (a plug for all groups).

We are making some history in Washington. There are 4 bills being heard that have 'motorcycle' in the title this Thursday. That is the earliest that anyone can remember ever getting a hearing on any motorcycle issue in WA.
