Motorcycle club helps veterans

OFF THE WIRE

The Vietnam and Legacy Veterans Motorcycle Club, Art Oliver, president, recently held its 16th Annual Bikers Ball at the Parkway Plaza Hotel. It was attended by over 1,000 patriotic bikers and friends. All of the net proceeds, as is their tradition, were donated to a local veterans cause. This year they honored the H.J. Leik Chapter 1 of the Disabled American Veterans, and their Auxiliary, based in Casper.
The deeply good-hearted and committed members of the club also fund academic scholarships for veterans and their families. In addition, they have sponsored an annual "Run to the Wall," from Casper to the Wyoming Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Cody for 18 years, which culminates in a BBQ fundraiser that generates funds for the upkeep of the memorial. With profound gratitude to our brother in arms, the H.J. Leik Chapter, DAV, wishes to thank the Vietnam and Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club for their most generous donation to our cause.
The primary activity of the DAV is to assist veterans in accessing any disability benefits for which they may be eligible. Our local chapter's main focus is on supporting the DAV Transportation Network with volunteer drivers and funds to purchase and maintain vans to transport any veteran to the VA hospitals in Cheyenne and Sheridan. Our DAV Auxiliary focuses on supporting the Casper VA Clinic with such things as coffee, cookies and gift trees. When you see a veteran motorcycle rider, give them a second look and a friendly wave. They're great neighbors. The club can be contacted at P.O. Box 2313, Mills, WY 82644-2313.
