PALMER - An 18-year-old man is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail Monday after Monson police received a tip that he planned to detonate an explosive device at the local Quaboag Riders Motorcycle Club.
Cameron D. Hibbert, formerly of Harwich, was arrested by Monson police, assisted by state police, at a Park Avenue residence on a warrant after a 10-minute standoff.
Police Chief Stephen Kozloski Jr. said Hibbert wanted by the Brewster and Harwich police departments on charges including possession of a firearm, breaking and entering, larceny, destruction of property, and fraud.
Kozloski said police were told that Hibbert had recently constructed an explosive device that he intended to detonate at the motorcycle club. Kozloski said police also were told that Hibbert may use the device on any law enforcement officer that attempted to place him under arrest.
“Hibbert initially refused to comply with state troopers and police officers resulting in a standoff lasting approximately 10 minutes. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident,” Kozloski said in a press release.
Kozloski said police found bomb-making materials inside the residence at 7 Park Ave. Hibbert also was charged with possession of components of an incendiary device and possession of an explosive delivery system.
Hibbert had an innocent plea entered before Judge Patricia T. Poehler and will return to court on Feb. 7 for a pretrial conference.
CBS3 reported that Assistant District Attorney Mary D. Partyka said Hibbert had a carbon dioxide tank that was capable of doing a “great deal of damage.”
