House Approves Repeal of Health Care Law

Reports said Wednesday that majority of the House approved the repeal of health care law, including three Democrats who joined the 242 Republicans.

According to the reports, the Republicans easily passed the two-paged repeal proposal, after spending less than two days of floor debate with the Democrats.

The House now plans another vote on Thursday to instruct committees to consider specific modifications on the health care law. This is due to the possibility that the repeal effort will fail on the Senate, which is being ruled by the Democrats. Reports said that the changes may include reduction of paperwork burdens on businesses, permission of coverage sales across the state lines, withholding of money to implement the law and refusal of funds for grants.

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that he will not bring the repeal to the floor for a vote, while Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the Senate needs to repeal the health care law and focus on more realistic steps that actually incur lower costs and encourage private sector job creation. US President Barack Obama, on the other hand, still holds to his strong support for the law, saying that the House approval to the repeal does not change his eagerness to work with both parties to improve the Affordable Care Act.

The nearly $900-billion health care law passed Congress last year over unanimous Republican opposition. According to the reports, this bill is about to extend quality health care coverage to 32 million Americans once the bill was fully implemented. It will also unburden 130 million non-elderly Americans with pre-existing conditions from losing their insurance. It was considered the largest expansion of federal health coverage following the creation of Medicare and Medicaid.

However, sources predict that the measure will not likely pass the Senate!
